Baldor Expands Production Capacity

Baldor Electric Company, a Fort Smith, Arkansas-based marketer, designer and manufacturer of industrial electric motors, drives and generators, announces the completion of its new motor manufacturing plant in Columbus, Mississippi and the expansion of its Oshkosh, Wisconsin generator plant.

Baldor has recently completed the move of its Columbus plant to a new facility located a few miles from the old location. The new 350,000 square feet facility is double the size of the old plant, providing much needed additional manufacturing capacity and improved process flow. The new Columbus plant will take care of increasing customer demand for cast iron motors from 15 through 350 horsepower. In addition, Baldor’s Columbus plant also produces alternators for generators made in Baldor’s Oshkosh, Wisconsin plant. The new Columbus plant will also serve as a distribution center for Baldor motors manufactured in Columbus and in Fort Mill, South Carolina, as well as towable generator manufactured in Oshkosh and Mukwonago, Wisconsin. Having finished inventory in Columbus, MS will allow Baldor to better serve customers in the southeastern USA.

To meet the capacity needs for increasing and future sales growth, Baldor is more than doubling its Oshkosh, Wisconsin generator plant by adding over 100,000 square feet to the existing facility. Products manufactured in the Oshkosh plant range from 3 to 250 kW and include portable generators, home and industrial standby generators, towable generators and light towers. The expansion will also provide additional space for storage and research and development, which has previously been off site. "We continue to manufacture in the United States,” says Baldor’s Vice President of Marketing, Randy Breaux, “Our people are very productive and understand that if we don’t take care of our customers, someone else will. We continue to lead the industry by building better products, offering our customers faster delivery times and superior service."

In addition to new plant expansions, Baldor recently opened the Boreham Learning Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas adjacent to its corporate offices. The center features an auditorium supported by advanced audio-visual equipment and will seat 115 people. Customer education classes are held in this new facility, utilizing a new training classroom and an expanded state-of-the-art training lab. Customer and employee education continues to be an important focus at Baldor.

Baldor has 14 manufacturing locations in the USA and one plant in Bristol, England.
