Dodge Celebrates 136 Years of Success of Manufacturing Quality Products
June 1878 - Wallace Dodge opened a factory in Mishawaka, Indiana to manufacture “Magic Wagon Jacks” and other wooden items.
1881 - A fire destroyed the building which housed the business. Dodge rebuilt the building and started a new business when he was granted a patent on wood split pulleys.
July 4, 1882 – Dodge introduces the “Independence Split Wood Pulley” and the interchangeable bushing concept was born.
A few years later Wallace patented a Rope Drive system beginning our introduction into the world of Power Transmission. The culture of innovation began with the interchangeable bushing concept in 1882.
From there the business grew and Wallace realized the future was in cast iron. The Dodge product line increased dramatically over the next 136 years to include PT Components, Bearings and Gearing.
